8/27 - 8/31

 Hello Parents!

Week 3 has been a great success; Mr. Edmondson and I see your scholars getting used to being back in the classroom and accustomed to procedures. The learning is starting to flow so beautifully!

Graded work/Black folders went home today (Friday 8/24)
Please sign the paper in the protective sheet and send the empty folder back on Monday.

As you look through your child's assignments/work within the black folder please speak with your scholar. Encourage them to see mistakes as an opportunity for learning. "It is okay to make mistakes, that is the way we learn"
A large focus this week for our classroom culture was how we think about challenges and the difference between a growth mindset and a fixed mindset.
Please encourage your child never to say "I don't know" - but instead to say "I don't know yet."
If something does not come naturally for your child, please encourage them to say, "This just needs more time and effort." We are wanting to instill in our scholars a growth mindset.

Students chose from the following phrases and reflected/applied them to their own lives, copying the phrase and drawing a picture:
"I can learn how they do it."
"I can't do it yet."
"What other strategies can I try?"
"I can always give my best effort and improve."
"I can learn how to do this."
"I'm on the right track."
"This just needs more time and effort."
"What can I learn from my mistake?"

Our study of story elements will be solidified by reading How the Camel Got It's Hump and by learning to visualize what we read.
