Hello Parents!

First, a huge thank you to all who volunteered and donated to make the Greek Celebration a success. Our scholars really enjoyed the day!

Second, warm thanks to all who attended our meet and greet this Tuesday evening with Mrs. Bowers, myself, and administration.

Important Dates

A Look in the Classroom

1.     ELA: We are doing an adjective and adverb review by parsing sentences. We will also be carefully constructing another paragraph about our Ancient Greece unit.
2.     History: We will do a review of our Ancient Greece unit by creating original paragraphs about the highlights of our lessons.
3.     Science: Students will be able to identify the most important organs in the excretory system.
4.     Math Objectives: (Unit 1 - 3 Review)
1.     Count, read, and write whole numbers to 1,000 and identify the place value for each digit 
2.     Read and write number words for numbers to 1,000
3.     Count on or back by hundreds, tens, or ones from a number within 1,000.
4.     Order and compare whole numbers review strategies for adding and subtracting mentally within 20 using base
5.     10 properties of numbers 
6.     Review part-whole concepts in word problems 
7.     Review comparison concepts in word problems 
8.     Add and subtract
9.     Compare the same lengths measured in different units 
10. Estimate and measure lengths to the nearest meter, centimeter, yard, foot, or inch -Add and subtract lengths 
11. Measure curved lengths 
12. 1,000 by using the symbols <, >, and =
13. Rename 1 ten as 10 ones and 1 hundred as 10 tens. 
14. Review addition and subtraction within 1,000
15. Add or subtract 1, 2, 10, 20, 100, or 200 from a number within 1,000

A Look in the Classroom
1.     ELA: We will do a close review of adjectives and adverbs and continue writing paragraphs. We will finish our Sarah Plain and Tall unit strong with more letter writing.
2.     Science: Students will understand the urinary system is part of the excretory system. We will also discuss how the kidneys filter blood.
3.     History: We will be discussing Ancient Greece's greatest thinker's: Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle. We will also learn about Alexander the Great.
4.     Math Objectives:
1.     Review  - units of measurement  
2.     Review place-value concepts  
3.     Review addition and subtraction within 1,000 
4.     Review measurement of length 
5.     Renaming 2 digit and 3 digit subtraction and addition equations    


Hi 2nd Grade Parents,

Nest Wednesday, students will participate in a grade wide Greek Day celebration!  To make that happen we need lots of help and donations…so begging for all of you fingerprinted volunteers to come and join the fun!!


In addition to the above sign up, Miss Hadley’s room will lead the readers theater of Greek Myths.  We will need to parent volunteers and if anyone has any Greek costumes that students could borrow and use to dress up in while reading that would be great!  Please send them in labeled and we can get them returned to you.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

Announcements


1.     Part 3 of the Simple Machines Project is due Wednesday, December 5th.
2.  Mr. Edmondson's last day in 2B will be Wednesday, December 5th. He will then take on the lead role as our school's K-2 PE coach. We are so thankful and happy for you Mr. Edmondson!



Our class goal: Persevere through change. Show courage through change.


On Friday we celebrated Mr. Edmondson with cupcakes, words of appreciation, notes, balloons, and a gift (a hat that says Coach Edmondson) THANK YOU MRS. KEC for making this day of appreciation for our wonderful teacher happen. We are so excited for this next chapter for your Mr. Edmondson!

A Look in the Classroom
1.     ELA: In Grammar we are doing a close examination of adjectives. For writing, we are focusing on letter writing, which is a beautiful addition to our Sarah Plain and Tall unit! We will also extend our discussion on topic sentences.
2.     History: We will discuss the first Olympics! Students will be able to identify the most important battles of the Persian Wars and we will take a close look at the architecture of Athens.
3.     Science: Students will continue examine the digestive system, with a close review of each of the 5 part. 
In science this week we explored more about the digestive system by doing an experiment where we got to explore more about our taste buds! Thank you Mrs. Kim!





4.     Math Objectives:
1.     Relate  division  by  2  to  multiplication  by  2. 
2.     Practice  division  facts  for  2  
3.     Solve  word  problems   
4.     Practice  multiplication  facts  for  2  and  3  and  division  facts  for  2

3.  December 11th at 6 pm is the Meet and Greet with Mrs. Bowers (our new assistant teacher who will be stepping into the lead role March 18th), admin, and Miss Hadley.
