A Look in the Classroom

 

1. ELA: We will finish our study of adverbs. Our study of paragraph writing will continue as we focus on strong topic sentences. In connection with our Ancient Greece unit, we will read Daedalus and Icarus and continue to work on summarizing what we read. 
2. History: Students will learn about the Greek city-state Sparta. We will take time to review in class what we have learned about Ancient Greece so far and have an assessment on Friday.
3. Science: We will be focusing on the digestive system. Students will take a close look at each of the 5 steps of digestion.
4. Math Objectives:
   1. Build  the  multiplication  table  for  3  
   2. Compute  unknown  facts  from  known  facts    
   3. Practice  multiplication  facts  for  3  
   4. Practice  multiplication  facts  for  2  and  3  
   5. Solve  word  problems

A Look in the Classroom

1. ELA: Our brief week will consist of a parts of speech review and sentence parsing activities. We will also continue our exploration of paragraph writing.
2. History: We will continue discussing Athens, the birth of democracy, and what life was like for Athenian boys and girls.
3. Science: Students will learn that the mouth is the first part of the digestive system. They will also discuss which taste buds are associated with different tastes.
4. Math Objectives:
   1. Count by 3’s
   2. Solve problems in the form of  3x____=____ by counting by 3’s 
   3. Relate the facts for ____ x 3 to the facts for 3 x ____
   4. Practice multiplication facts for 3

      Dear Families,
      Our class just finished their ancient China unit and will be finishing up a Cricket in Time Square soon. On Tuesday, Nov. 20^th, 2^nd grade will be conducting a Cricket in Time Square/Chinese New Year Celebration to commemorate all that they have learned.
      They will make a paper lantern craft and a Chinese New Year calligraphy wall hanging.
      For food, they will enjoy a simple stir fry noodle (signifies long life) Chinese rice cake (called Nian Gao and is a homonym for “higher year” implying prosperity year after year), and a little bit of green tea. 
      
      
      If you are concerned about any of the ingredients in the food provided, please contact Davy Yee at dyeeaz@gmail.com, class liaison for 2A, for additional information. If you have allergy concerns, please send an appropriate snack for your child and notify our teacher.

What a beautiful week of hard work and learning! Scholars are persevering through difficult tasks! It is a beautiful thing to be part of such a joy-filled classroom. Thank you for allowing Mr. Edmondson and I the blessing of teaching your sweet scholars.

A Look in the Classroom

1.     ELA: We will begin to practice our new poem, 'Twas the Night Before Christmas; we will recite on December 7th. We will have a strong adverb review in Grammar. Reading will consist of summary creation. We will be drafting paragraphs in Writing class.

2.     History: We will continue to discuss Greek gods and study the Trojan war. By the end of the week, we will learn about Athens and explore some of its beautiful architecture. 

3.     Science: Students will learn the different steps of digestion, we will be recreating the digestion process as well!

4.     Math Objectives:

1.     Multiplication Table of 2

2.     Build the multiplication table for 2

A Look in the Classroom

1.     ELA: Our poetry selection, Something Told the Wild Geese, will be recited in class on November 9th. In Writing class we are constructing strong detail sentences and tying that instruction to summarization skills in Reading class. Grammar instruction will hone in on defining and using adverbs.

2.     Science: Students will be learning about body systems including: muscular, respiratory, circulatory, and digestive.

3.     History: We will review for our Ancient China Test on Monday and take the assessment on Tuesday. We will then begin to explore out Ancient Greece unit with lessons in Geography and Greek gods.

4.     Math Objectives:

1.     Solve simple word problems that involve multiplication or division 

2.     Describe a context division story with a picture/number bond

3.     Create Division and Multiplication word problems 

4.     Review

5.     Thursday Division and Multiplication assessment 

6.     Count by 2s and solve problems in the form of 2x (Friday is the start of unit 5)
